Double Knott Manhattan

Ingredients

  • 30ml Maker's Mark bourbon (1 oz)
  • 30ml George Dickel Rye (1 oz)
  • 15ml Carpano Bianco vermouth (1/2 oz)
  • 15ml Punta e Mes (1/2 oz)
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • A Maker's Mark bourbon barrel stave (for smoking)
  • A small handful chopped cinnamon sticks and whole cloves
  • Ice, for stirring

Instructions

  1. Place a small pile of chopped cinnamon sticks and cloves on a Maker's Mark barrel stave.
  2. Apply a plumber's torch to the pile until it is smoking heavily.
  3. Invert a snifter glass over the smoke to capture a snifter-full of smoke.
  4. Meanwhile, combine both whiskeys, both vermouths, and both bitters in a mixing glass with ice.
  5. Stir until well-chilled.
  6. Remove the snifter from the smoke, keeping it inverted until ready.
  7. Right the snifter and immediately pour the chilled cocktail into it through the captured smoke.
