Dry Martini

Ingredients

  • 60ml London dry gin (2 oz)
  • 10ml dry vermouth (1/3 oz)
  • Ice, for stirring
  • Garnish: green olive, or lemon peel expressed and discarded

Instructions

  1. Combine gin and dry vermouth in a mixing glass with plenty of ice.
  2. Stir for 20-30 seconds until very well-chilled and slightly diluted.
  3. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
  4. Garnish with a green olive or, for a 'twist', express the oils of a lemon peel over the drink and either drop it in or discard.
IBA standard is a 6:1 gin-to-vermouth ratio. Traditionalists call for colder — stir longer, or keep both bottles in the freezer.
