Flank Steak Marinade

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (118 ml)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil (59.1 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar) (29.6 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (29.6 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or brown sugar) (14.8 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard (or Dijon) (14.8 ml)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce, or more to taste (14.8 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne (4.9 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (4.9 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (4.9 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano (4.9 ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin (2.5 ml)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1.5 pound flank steak (680 g)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together soy sauce, olive oil, vinegar, Worcestershire, honey, mustard, garlic, hot sauce, and all seasonings in a small bowl until smooth.
  2. Add flank steak to a wide pan or large plastic bag; pour marinade over it. Massage marinade into steak.
  3. Marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight (up to 24 hours) for more flavor.
  4. Heat grill to medium-high; lightly oil grates.
  5. Remove steak from marinade; discard marinade. Grill 3-4 minutes per side, or to desired doneness.
  6. Remove from grill, cover with foil, and rest 10 minutes.
  7. Slice against the grain and serve.
