Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (237 ml)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (355 ml)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (4.9 ml)
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract (2.5 ml)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (591 ml)
  • 1 tsp baking soda (4.9 ml)
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar (4.9 ml)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.\n2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.\n3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.\n4. Divide the dough in half. Wrap each half in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes. \n5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one portion of dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters. Place cut-outs on prepared baking sheets. Repeat with remaining dough. \n6. Bake cookies for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool on baking sheet for a few minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
