Homemade Cornbread

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled (237 ml)
  • 1 cup cornmeal, spooned and leveled (237 ml)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder (9.9 ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (2.5 ml)
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda (1.2 ml)
  • 1 cup milk or buttermilk (237 ml)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter or neutral oil, plus more for pan (59.1 ml)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (59.1 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons honey (29.6 ml)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8x8-inch baking dish.
  2. Whisk together flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk milk, egg, melted butter, sugar, and honey.
  4. Add wet to dry and mix until just combined. Pour into prepared pan.
  5. Bake 25-35 minutes, until top springs back and toothpick comes out clean. Cool 20 minutes before slicing.
